Reynolds Roofing & Roughcasting covers Auchinleck from our base in Catrine, about four miles away. We are a local, family-run firm working across both roofing and roughcasting, and a good part of our work comes from within a few miles of here.
A large part of Auchinleck’s housing dates from its mining years — terraced rows and semi-detached property built to house workers and their families. That type of building brings its own set of considerations, and they are worth understanding before you commission work.
On a terrace, your roof is part of a longer run. Water getting in at one point does not always show up in the property where the fault is, and repairs sometimes need access or agreement from a neighbour. We are used to working on terraced rows and will tell you honestly if a repair needs coordinating with next door rather than starting work and running into it halfway through.
The end property in a row takes considerably more weather than the ones in the middle — a full elevation exposed to driving rain that the others are sheltered from. Gable ends are consistently where render fails first and worst, and where the case for a proper weatherproof finish is strongest.
Chimney stacks on terraced property are often shared between two properties. Repointing or rebuilding one needs doing properly for both, and it is worth knowing that before the scaffolding goes up.
Around two miles from our base. Mauchline has a mix of older sandstone property around its historic core and a good deal of later housing around it — two very different sets of roofing and rendering requirements. We work across both.
Around six miles south. Cumnock is largest town in this part of Ayrshire and its housing runs from Victorian sandstone in town centre through to substantial interwar and post-war estates — much of it originally roughcast or dry dashed, and much of it now due attention.
Around ten miles north. The largest town in East Ayrshire, with everything from Victorian tenements and sandstone terraces to large suburban estates. We cover both trades across the town and surrounding villages.
Around thirteen miles west on coast. Coastal property takes harder beating inland property, salt-laden wind, driving rain Firth & constant exposure. Roofs & render both wear faster here, & both need specifying accordingly
The three Irvine Valley towns sit north-east of Kilmarnock along the A71. Largely Victorian terraced and sandstone property built through the lace and weaving years, in a valley setting that funnels weather along it.

Yes. Terraced work is a regular part of what we do. It sometimes needs a bit more coordination around access and shared features, and we will tell you what is involved before starting.
Usually yes. Scaffolding and set-up are a significant part of the cost, and doing two adjoining properties at once shares that. If you can coordinate with a neighbour it is worth asking us to quote both.
It can be matched closely in texture and colour, but a fresh finish will always look newer than a weathered one alongside it. That evens out over time. We will show you what to expect before committing.
That depends on your title deeds and how the properties are held. We can tell you what the chimney needs from a building point of view, but the ownership question is one for your deeds or your solicitor.
About four miles — we are in Catrine, so Auchinleck is a short run for us.
