REYNOLDS ROOFING & ROUGHCASTING LTD

Roofers in Kilmarnock

Reynolds Roofing & Roughcasting covers Kilmarnock and the surrounding villages from our base in Catrine, around ten miles south. We are a small, family-run firm and roofing is one of our two core trades — not a sideline.

    Roofing Work in Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock is the largest town in East Ayrshire and the housing reflects it — Victorian tenements and sandstone terraces through the older parts of town, and large suburban estates spreading out from them. The roofing problems differ considerably between the two.

Most of our Kilmarnock calls are for roof repairs: slipped or broken slates and tiles after a windy spell, leaks around chimneys and valleys, failed ridge and verge mortar, and blocked or leaking gutters. Where a roof has reached the end of its life we quote for a full re-roof, and we fit flat roofs on extensions, garages and dormers across the town.

We cover every part of Kilmarnock, including the town centre, Riccarton, Bellfield, Shortlees, Onthank, New Farm Loch, Crookedholm and Hurlford, and out to nearby Kilmaurs. If your walls need attention too, we also offer roughcasting in Kilmarnock, so one team can do both.

    Repair or Replace?

The question we get asked most. A roof with isolated slipped slates, sound timbers and no widespread nail fatigue is a repair. A roof where slates are failing across the whole slope, where nails have corroded through, or where you are calling someone out every winter is usually past the point where repairs are good value.

We will tell you honestly which one you are looking at, and if a repair will only buy you a couple of years we will say so rather than taking the easier job and leaving you with the problem.

     Storm Damage

East Ayrshire gets its share of weather off the Atlantic, and storm damage is a regular part of the winter work. If water is getting in, tell us when you call — we can often get a temporary covering on to stop further damage and then arrange a permanent repair once conditions allow.

If you are claiming on insurance, take photographs before anything is disturbed. We can provide a written assessment of the damage and the work required.

     Towns and Areas We Cover

    Mauchline

Around two miles from our base. Mauchline has a mix of older sandstone property around its historic core and a good deal of later housing around it — two very different sets of roofing and rendering requirements. We work across both.

    Cumnock

Around six miles south. Cumnock is largest town in this part of East Ayrshire and its housing runs from Victorian sandstone in town centre through to substantial interwar and post-war estates — much of it originally roughcast or dry dashed, and much of it now due attention.

    Ayr

Around thirteen miles west on coast. Coastal property takes harder beating inland property, salt-laden wind, driving rain Firth & constant exposure. Roofs & render both wear faster here, & both need specifying accordingly

The Irvine Valley — Galston, Newmilns and Darvel

The three Irvine Valley towns sit north-east of Kilmarnock along the A71. Largely Victorian terraced and sandstone property built through the lace and weaving years, in a valley setting that funnels weather along it.

    Auchinleck

Around four miles away, between Catrine and Cumnock. Auchinleck has a large stock of terraced and semi-detached housing from its mining years, which brings its own considerations — shared roofs, party walls and exposed gables.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do you cover Kilmarnock from Catrine?

Yes. We are about ten miles south and Kilmarnock is a regular working area for us.

If water is actively getting in, tell us when you call. We can often apply a temporary covering quickly to stop further damage, then arrange the permanent repair.

It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, the materials, the condition of the timbers underneath and the access. We give fixed prices after a site visit rather than estimates over the phone.

Yes. Bear in mind that shared roofs usually involve common repair obligations between owners, and the cost is normally apportioned according to the title deeds. We can quote the work and explain what is involved.

Yes. If a repair is the right answer we will say so. Our work comes from recommendation, which does not survive selling people roofs they did not need.
